- Several members attended the SWE regional conference last weekend in Seattle.
- Next year's regional conference in LA/OC will be the last one, as the Society will transitions to WE Local conferences. WE local is a new conference format that will provide consistent experience across the Society (aprox. 6-8 per year vs. 10 regions) organized by SWE HQ.The two inaugural events for 2016 are:

- WE Local San Jose at the San Jose Marriott on February 24-26
- Webinars available from SWE national regarding SWE leadership and issues facing female engineers.
- Chio (who has experience mentoring similar robotics team) will be our point of contact, with support from Michele.
- Once Chio makes contact we will look into how our section can support the team, and what kind of involvement they are interested in.
- Karla - can you pass on the contact info to Chio and Michele?
- Fourth grade days was this week
- CalPoly open house - April 14 - at our next meeting we will plan an engineering panel similar to the one put on last year.

Hello everyone,
Thanks to those who joined us on Tuesday. I think we are making progress in our mutual goal - a casual networking group to meet, discuss some SWE business, hear about each other's work/passion and have fun!
In addition to skyping in to the meeting from Shanghai, our great secretary actually took notes (attached). Thanks again, Karen!
One thing I'd like to highlight in the notes, in case you missed the meeting, Helene asked the professional section to get involved with the professional track of talks at the Regional conference. This means coming up with ideas of what you'd like to hear, possible speakers and helping to enlist the speakers. We brainstormed a few ideas - but it would be great if you think of any others, please send them to me. I also want to ask if any of you would like to volunteer to work directly with the Cal Poly section on this? Please let me know.
Thanks - and hopefully we'll see you all next time. We had 11 + 1 skype, we can fit a few more into my house - particularly since some of us are ok sitting on the floor :). I'll send a note out as we get closer.
Thanks, Karla

August 25, 2014
Hello All,
Thanks to those of you who came to our first meeting of the year last Tuesday (Aug 19). We had a great showing of 11 and lots of energy for the new year. Given that our secretary is now on her way to Shanghai, I thought I'd send out a few notes/comments from the meeting:
1) Website - www.swe.org/regionb/b011 has been updated and you will be able to find our schedules and activities on the site
2) Upcoming events:
- the ABJ Region Meeting (Leadership Summit) in Las Vegas (Sept 12-14), I plan to attend
- the Annual Conference WE14 in LA (Oct 23-25)
- B Region Conference - co-hosted by the Cal Poly section and the Central Coast section (that's us!) (Feb 27-March 1)
3) Regional support
The Cal Poly group is already moving ahead on planning for the Feb regional meeting (to be held at Embassy Suites in SLO). There will be speakers, tours (tech and fun), outreach events. . Once the students get back (mid to late Sept), we expect to set up a meeting with their planning committee to find out how we can get more involved.
Please let Helene and/or me know if you have any ideas for possible speakers or events.
4) Ideas for activities this year
We all agreed that the Regional will be a big opportunity for us to be involved and get to know one another better. We also agreed that to be successful, we need to focus on a few things, and not try to be everything to everyone. That being said, in addition to supporting the regional, we chose to have casual meetings monthly or every other month in order to hear about each other's interests and work - yes, we all want to hear more about and get a demo of 'the greatest hula-hoop' from Melinda!
Next meeting: hopefully you can all come to the next meeting. It will be on Sept 30 from 6-8pm at my house (Please Call or email for the address)-. We can either order out for dinner or I can make a main dish if others bring sides/appetizers, depends on how many people can make it.
Please let me know if you plan on coming - I'll send out a note as we get closer, also please let me know if you'd like to be taken off this distribution list,
Thanks for your participation and enthusiasm,
Karla
